For this design, we transformed a traditional gold opal ring into a sleek white gold version with a clean, modern style. By reusing the customer’s original stones and crafting a contemporary setting, the finished ring beautifully blends old memories with modern craftsmanship — ready to be treasured for years to come.
This remodel began with a much-loved opal and sapphire ring in a traditional yellow gold setting. The customer wanted to preserve the sentiment and beauty of the original piece while giving it a fresh, modern look. During our consultation, we discussed design options that would highlight the opals’ natural colour play in a clean, contemporary style. Together, we decided to recreate the ring in white gold, simplifying the setting to focus on the three opals and their soft, iridescent glow.
With the design finalised, the original ring was carefully disassembled and the opals removed for cleaning and inspection. The new white gold band was formed and the settings soldered into place on the bench, ready to cradle the three stones. Each detail was refined by hand to achieve perfect spacing and alignment, ensuring the ring retained balance and symmetry while embracing its more modern design.
Once the structure was complete, the opals were expertly reset into their new bezels, allowing their colour and light to shine through beautifully. The ring was then polished to a bright white finish, giving a crisp contrast that enhances the soft tones of the opals. The finished piece is a stunning transformation — a classic design reimagined with a modern edge, carrying its original sentiment into a new chapter of wear.
