Client Journey

Stone Replacement

This case study details the restoration of a pendant through a stone replacement and claw repair. With one missing stone, a carefully sourced match was selected to blend seamlessly with the existing gems. Our goldsmith, Michael Thornley, rebuilt the claws to secure the new stone while preserving the pendant’s original design. The process combined skilled craftsmanship with attention to detail, resulting in a piece restored to both strength and beauty.

Consultation & Design

When this pendant came to us, we began with a full assessment of the setting to understand the extent of the claw damage and to check the overall condition of the surrounding stones. One stone was missing, so we sourced a replacement that matched the size, cut, and colour of the originals. This ensured the repaired piece would maintain its balance and symmetry, both visually and structurally.

Design & Mould

The next step was to restore the claws that secure the stone in place. Our goldsmith, Michael Thornley, rebuilt and strengthened the worn claws, shaping them so they not only hold the new stone securely but also complement the pendant’s overall design. Once the claws were prepared, we carefully set the replacement stone, aligning it perfectly with the existing ones so that it blended seamlessly into the piece.

Finished Piece

With the stone secured and the claws reinforced, the pendant underwent a final polish to refresh its shine and highlight the details of the design. Every edge and surface was carefully finished to bring back the piece’s original brilliance. The end result was a restored pendant that looked complete once again, with the replacement stone indistinguishable from the originals and the setting strong enough to protect it for years to come.
